GLENDALE, CA — U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) toured Ararat Gardens and Post Acute facilities, a skilled nursing facility located in Glendale. Friedman also spoke with Ararat CEO Derek Ghookasian on the impacts of Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid/Medi-Cal, which skilled nursing facilities and low-income seniors rely on.

“Medicaid allows seniors to live their lives with dignity and care that is tailored to their unique needs – and Republicans are more than comfortable with gutting more than one trillion dollars of this lifeline to give the wealthiest one percent of Americans one billion dollars in tax breaks,” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “I’ll never stop fighting to give our seniors the healthcare they’ve worked decades for, because giving them anything less would mean crushing the American dream.”

Ararat and other skilled nursing facilities like it offer 24/7 care from registered nurses and therapists, as well as short-term rehabilitation and personalized, holistic care plans for seniors with a wide range of illnesses or physical needs. In addition to limiting access to critical healthcare for low-income seniors, Republican changes to Medicaid are projected to impact staffing and care quality at a time where the industry is facing staffing shortages.
