RELEASE: Friedman Secures Commitment from Transportation Secretary to Partner with Her & Los Angeles on 2028 Olympics
“I stand willing and ready to partner with you.” - Secretary Duffy
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, July 16, 2025, during a House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee hearing, U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) secured a public commitment from U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to work with her and Los Angeles in preparing for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
When asked by Friedman to provide assurances for investments in mass transit and working with the LA delegation to deliver a successful game, Duffy responded:
“We have to showcase how great this country is. The greatest equity is security at the Olympics — the second issue is transportation. A lot of people have to move through a very small area. I’m committed to working with L.A., I’ve already met with the Olympics team,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. “I stand willing and ready to partner with you to make sure this goes well and we showcase this great country.”
The 2028 Games are expected to bring roughly 10,500 athletes and millions of spectators to the Golden State, placing significant demands on local infrastructure and mobility systems.
“Preparing for the Olympics is a massive undertaking — and we need strong federal partnership to make sure Los Angeles isn’t left to carry the burden alone. The investments we make now should create a more affordable, connected, and reliable transportation system — not just for the Games, but for the millions of Angelenos who rely on it every day,” said Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30). “I’m committed to making sure these resources deliver long-term benefits to our city.”
