LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, August 6, 2025, Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) joined members of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Leadership Council for a roundtable discussion on the state of the film industry in Los Angeles, and the actions Representative Friedman is taking to bring production home to Hollywood. Members of the DGA Leadership Council also shared their concerns about the growing role of AI and its implications on the film industry, as well as IP and copyright protection.
“Every time a film project leaves Los Angeles, the small businesses and working people that depend on them are affected. That’s why the discussions we had at this roundtable weren’t just about bringing back film and filming jobs, but also about how we create a rising tide that lifts all boats,” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “I’m working on a national film tax credit that will do just that, and I’m grateful for the support and insight of the DGA Leadership Council.”
Representative Friedman has been a tireless leader in bringing film production back to Los Angeles. In addition to her work on a national film tax credit, Representative Friedman rallied Hollywood labor unions earlier this year and led a letter to the Motion Picture Association to highlight the value of bringing productions back to Los Angeles. Representative Friedman also joined a roundtable of Hollywood-area businesses and community leaders in June, which stressed the impact that runaway production was having on local commerce and tourism.
