Beverly Press: Friedman checks in on WeHo affordable housing progress

U.S. Rep. Laura Friedman (D-Burbank) toured construction of the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation’s newest housing project, located at 910 N. Wetherly Drive, last month. The project will provide 89 quality and affordable rentals for low- and moderate-income families.

“Seeing affordable housing move from plans to construction is how we help make life more affordable for hardworking families across my district,” Friedman said. “We need to meet the housing crisis with bold strategies like the ones I’ve introduced with bipartisan support in Congress, because our families deserve to have a roof over their heads without breaking the bank.”

Friedman has highlighted affordable housing as one of her top priorities in Congress. In August 2025, Friedman unveiled her bipartisan Cut Red Tape for Housing Act, which creates a targeted NEPA exemption for urban infill housing projects that meet strict environmental and site criteria in order to speed up housing construction. The Cut Red Tape for Housing Act is co-led by Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-North Carolina).

Earlier this month, Friedman announced that she is co-leading the bipartisan, bicameral Build H.U.B.S. Act in the House, which cuts red tape in order to unlock poorly designed federal investment programs that have limited housing production. This legislation is being co-led in the House by Rep. Mike Lawler (R-New York), with companion legislation in the Senate being led by Sens. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Delaware) and John Curtis (R-Utah).
