ICYMI: Rep. Laura Friedman Joins Fox News to Call Out Republican Shutdown
Democratic Rebuttal to GOP Whip Tom Emmer
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This weekend, Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) appeared on Fox News to discuss the government shutdown and Democrats efforts to protect Americans’ access to SNAP and affordable healthcare.

Her interview aired after House Majority Whip Tom Emmer joined the show and attempted to blame Democrats for the shutdown and the suspension of SNAP benefits. Rep. Friedman responded live on air, pushing back against the false narrative and calling out Republican leadership for refusing to negotiate.
Friedman on her negotiating to end the shutdown:
“I’m not going to sign anything until I am absolutely convinced that my constituents can get their medications, can go see a doctor. And right now, I don’t have that. They’ve refused to come back to Washington, D.C. — so that’s what it’s going to take to get my signature.”
Friedman took aim at President Trump’s priorities:
“Instead of scrambling to fill people’s EBT cards and make sure they don’t go hungry, we’ve got a president who spent half the night tweeting photos of his new gilded bathroom so that he can be comfortable when he goes and has a poo.”
