BURBANK, CA — U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) met with members of her LGBTQ Advisory Committee to discuss the concerns of the Los Angeles LGBTQ community. Representative Friedman shared her legislative record on LGBTQ issues and addressed concerns from stakeholders.
“This administration has been relentless in its attacks against our LGBTQ friends and neighbors, using them as scapegoats and political pawns to distract Americans from the effects of Trump’s horrible policies. I refuse to be on the sidelines for this fight,” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “I'm proud to stand with our LGBTQ organizations and stakeholders as we continue to beat back every new baseless attack, grant freeze, and cruel policy change.”
Friedman has been a steadfast ally to the LGBTQ community. This advisory committee meeting marks the third time she has met with LGBTQ stakeholders since she assumed office, with her previously meeting with stakeholders in January and June of this year. Rep. Friedman led an effort in early June to restore over $19 million in HIV prevent grants for Los Angeles clinics and is a cosponsor of numerous pieces of legislation that protect LGBTQ individuals, including the Equality Act, Fair and Equal Housing Act, and the Elder Pride Protection Act.
Friedman has also taken the administration to task on its attacks on the transgender community, and has taken action to oppose the elimination of life-saving gender affirming care, restrictive passport gender markers, and the ban on transgender service members.
