RELEASE: Congresswoman Friedman Slams Trump Threat to Gut California’s Federal Investments

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, June 6, 2025, U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) released the following statement on reporting that Trump is preparing to cut federal investments in California and make life more expensive for the hardworking Americans living there: 

“This is political extortion — plain and simple. Californians pay $83 billion more in taxes than we receive from the federal government every year. America relies on our tax dollars — and now Trump wants to punish us for it.  

He already abandoned Americans — Republicans and Democrats — after the wildfires. This new attack will raise costs, crush American leadership, and cost lives. 

This isn’t leadership. It’s authoritarianism.”
