BURBANK, CALIFORNIA — U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) joined with local community members and delivered remarks at the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) Burbank Chapter’s Annual Armenian Genocide Commemoration.

2025 marks the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 1.5 million Armenians were killed by the Ottoman Empire in a genocide that was denied for over a century. Today, threats against Armenian territorial integrity and cultural survival are still at large. In addition to the ongoing displacement of Armenians, the Lachin Corridor blockade has causes shortages of food, medicine, and fuel. Unfortunately, this ongoing tragedy has been met with muted international response.

“We’re gathered here to remember and say quite simply: the Armenian people must have a voice in their future, and we must be brave enough to amplify their voices.” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “We have to remember all that has happened and all that will happen if we refuse to act. The cost of forgetting is far too great.”

Friedman’s Advocacy for the Armenian American Community Includes:

  • Co-authored and supported multiple resolutions reaffirming recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
  • Secured funding to preserve Armenian cultural heritage.
  • Called for an end of military aid to Azerbaijan.
  • Advocated for Armenian American history to be included in ethnic studies curriculums.
  • Called for the release of the 23 POWs detained in Azerbaijan.

Friedman represents California’s 30th Congressional District, which is home to one of the largest populations of Armenian Americans in our nation. During her time in the California State Assembly and now in Congress, Friedman has been a steadfast advocate for the Armenian American community.
