RELEASE: Friedman Joins LGBTQ and Hollywood Community Leaders

HOLLYWOOD, CA — First, U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) met with various leaders of the LGBTQ+ community in to discuss the disastrous impacts that the Trump Administration is having on the LGBTQ community. Later, Friedman met with leaders from the Hollywood area to discuss new efforts to revitalize the community and local film and tv production.
With LBGTQ leaders, Friedman discussed President Trump’s recent executive orders rolling back protections for transgender people, which is impacting everything from passports to gender affirming care. Additionally, they discussed Trump’s federal funding freeze which would hurt LGBTQ people who rely on these services. They met at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the largest center of its kind in the world. Friedman was joined by members of the LA LGBT Center, TransLatin@ Coalition, Equality California, APLA Health, St. John’s Community Health, AMAAD, APAIT/SSG, Bienestar, UCLA Williams Institute, and Lambda Legal.
Later, Friedman met with leaders from the Hollywood area to discuss critical new efforts needed to revitalize Hollywood and support the struggling local film and tv industry. They also discussed issues of housing, homelessness, and how to make Hollywood a better place to live and work. Freidman was joined by the Central Hollywood Neighborhood Council (CHNC), Hollywood Hills West Neighborhood Council (HHWNC), Hollywood Studio District Neighborhood Council (HSDNC), Hollywood United Neighborhood Council (HUNC), East Hollywood Neighborhood Council (EHNC), the Hollywood Partnership/ Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and the Hollywood Media District BID.
“Trump and his far-right allies are putting the lives of our LGBTQ children, family, and friends at risk with his disgusting anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and dangerous executive orders,” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “His illegal attempt to stop funding for services that LGBTQ Californians rely on cannot stand, and I’ll do everything I can to fight back.”
Representative Friedman (CA-30) said regarding her meeting with Hollywood business leaders, “Representing Hollywood is deeply important to me given I got my start in Los Angeles working in the film industry. Hollywood is such an important and diverse part of our community with unique needs that I am committed to addressing. I’ll keep fighting to make sure that it remains the city that allowed me to live out my dream years ago.”
