RELEASE: Rep. Friedman Announces Decision to Skip President Trump’s State of the Union
Focused on delivering actual results for constituents in CA-30
LOS ANGELES, CA. — Today, February 24, 2026, U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) announced her decision to not attend President Trump’s State of the Union address, which is scheduled for later today.
“President Trump has done nothing to make life more affordable for my constituents. Instead, he’s cut their healthcare to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and imposed tariff taxes that cost our families $1,200 last year. I refuse to dignify his record by giving him the audience he craves while he lies to the country about the state of our union,” said Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30). “Unless President Trump finally chooses to work with us to make life better for the American people, my time is better spent fighting for my constituents elsewhere."
Friedman has been laser-focused on delivering results and relief for the constituents of California’s 30th Congressional District. In addition to authoring several bills that tackle issues like affordability, bureaucratic red tape, and ICE’s abuses of power, Friedman has made it clear that each time she takes on the Trump Administration, she is determined to win.
Last June after Friedman-led pressure, the Trump administration released nearly $20 million in previously frozen HIV prevention grants, delivering relief to Angelenos that depend on HIV prevention services. She also secured a commitment from Transportation Secretary Duffy to work with Los Angeles to prepare for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, stressing the importance of investments in local infrastructure that will benefit local Angelenos long after the Games are done.
