RELEASE: Rep. Friedman Appointed to House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, House Committee on Science, Space, & Technology
Commits to helping rebuild LA communities, safeguard access to water, improve transit, protect our environment
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, January 14, 2025, U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) announced her appointments to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is key helping reduce congestion, improve mass transit, invest in infrastructure, and more. The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology is responsible for safeguarding access to water, protecting the environment, investing in clean energy, developing technology to combat wildfires, and more.
“It’s an incredible honor to join the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “From improving mass transit to investing in our roads and bridges, I’m ready to hit the ground running and work on shaping smarter, more sustainable policies that move our nation forward.”
Friedman continued, “As Los Angeles and California face unprecedented challenges, joining the Science, Space, and Technology Committee provides a critical platform to safeguard access to water, invest in clean energy, drive innovation, and develop transformative solutions to combat the devastating wildfires impacting our communities. Together, we can build a more resilient and sustainable future for California and the nation.”
The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has jurisdiction over:
- All modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads.
- Oversight of FEMA.
- Disaster preparedness, response, and flood damage reduction.
- Clean and waste water management.
- Pipelines.
- The management of federally owned real estate and public buildings.
- Hazardous materials transportation.
The Science, Space and Technology Committee has jurisdiction over:
- NASA.
- The National Science Foundation.
- The National Weather Service.
- Civil aviation research and development.
- Environmental research and development.
- All energy research.
As a former California State Assemblymember, Friedman served as Chair of Transportation Committee and the Chair of Natural Resources.
