RELEASE: Rep. Friedman Statement on Threat to Condition Disaster Aid to California

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, January 16, 2025, U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) released the following statement on GOP threats to condition disaster aid to California residents desperately in need: 

“With so many families in need, politicizing and conditioning federal disaster aid isn’t just wrong — it’s cruel. Even Republican Senators have acknowledged this is a terrible precedent to set,” said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). “I’ll remind certain GOP leaders that Congress has historically moved quickly to support states in need. Take for example Louisiana, which quickly received tens of billions of dollars after Katrina. Putting people over party and helping neighboring states is what makes our country great. Instead of playing political games, GOP leaders must step up and stand with Americans.”
