At its meeting on Monday, August 18, the Pasadena City Council heard from Rep. Laura Friedman regarding her proposed legislation and future plans for the city. The council also listened to concerns from members of the public on issues ranging from immigration enforcement to housing policy.

Rep. Friedman discussed two bills she recently introduced: the Restoring Essential Healthcare Act and the No Mask for ICE Act.

U.S. Rep. Laura Friedman used a ceremonial appearance before the Pasadena City Council on Monday to announce more than $1 million each for Rose Bowl water and wastewater improvements and upgrades to the city’s 9-1-1 dispatch hub, telling city leaders the earmarks will help bolster public safety and emergency readiness.

Friedman, who represents a portion of Pasadena’s Linda Vista area, opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance before delivering a wide-ranging presentation on federal resources, wildfire recovery efforts, and healthcare legislation.

WASHINGTON — On July 24, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (D-Calif.-30) introduced a bill to name a U.S. Postal Service facility in Glendale, after former U.S. Navy Secretary Paul Ignatius, honoring his legacy of military service.

Ignatius was the highest-ranking Armenian American in the U.S. government when serving as the 59th U.S. Secretary of the Navy under President Lyndon B. Johnson.

On Saturday, Los Angeles-area elected officials, advocacy groups and community members convened in Pasadena for what was billed as a “People’s Hearing on Extreme Weather.”

Organized by the Climate Action Campaign and its member environmental activist groups, the event drew testimony from wildfire survivors and health officials. They criticized the Trump administration and are seeking to put pressure on California to safeguard climate change programs.
