“Airspace closures are yet another dangerous consequence of this reckless Republican shutdown. I’m ready to negotiate, but for that to happen, House Republicans need to stop playing games, come to the table, and work with Democrats to reopen the government. Enough is enough. I’m calling on Speaker Johnson to stop canceling votes, end the extended recesses, and sit down with Democrats to do his job.
Millions of people across the United States who rely on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to put food on the table are facing uncertainty as President Donald Trump has said he is withholding emergency funding until the government shutdown ends. Although two federal judges ruled that freezing SNAP payments is unlawful, Trump said he would withhold all SNAP payments until the shutdown concluded, in turn violating the court orders. LOS ANGELES, CA – today, Friday, October 31, 2025, just hours after a federal judge ordered the Trump Administration to release emergency food assistance funds, U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) demanded immediate compliance and condemned the administration’s refusal to commit to the ruling.
California’s Democratic representatives are warning that the ongoing federal government shutdown is worsening a health care emergency for millions of residents, with community clinics, hospitals, and patients bracing for funding cuts and coverage losses.
Rep. Mike Haridopolos has been averaging 15,000 steps a day during the shutdown, and his years of being a history teacher have come in handy.
With staff-led tours of the Capitol on pause until the government reopens, the Florida Republican has led more than 20 tours of his own this month.
“As a former history teacher, I love doing them, actually,” he said. “I love telling people the story of the building of the Capitol, some of the famous figures.”
The reaction from his constituents? The House floor seems bigger on TV.
